Hey, Sailor, Few in Town? Fleet Week Scaled Back

You know things are bad when Fleet Week in New York is described as "subdued," but that's what amNY calls it, because the Navy is sending "the smallest contingent of major combat ships to New York Harbor in the event's 22-year history." The Navy says it's trying to cut costs. More fallout from the tyrant Obama's reign of terror!

Don't worry. That still means thousands of sailors are coming, and they will no doubt cut their usual impressive figures on city streets. NBC reports that Baron von Swine, the mascot of Rudy's on 9th Avenue, will lose his swine flu mask and don a sailor's cap for the duration, and we assume uniformed servicemembers can expect at least a few free drinks from grateful citiizens -- and, courtesy of the Parks Department and Statue Cruises, free rides to and from the Statue of Liberty.

Staten Island has its own Fleet Week; 15 ships parade under the Verrazano Bridge this morning, and four F-18 fighter jets will fly over the Hudson River at 11:45 a.m.
