Hostage Situation in Binghamton; 4 or 5 Reported Shot -- UPDATE: 13 Reported Dead
Someone has shot up the American Civic Association in Binghamton, New York, hitting four, possibly five people, and has reportedly taken as many as 41 hostages. Mayor Matthew Ryan says the shooter has a high-powered rifle and the SWAT team in on the scene at 131 Front Street. The Association helps immigrants with job assistance and ESL classes. A few streets have been closed and the local high school has been locked down. Police are leading out some hostages, and victims being carried out by medical personnel, as we write. Update 1:00 p.m.: WNBF reporter Bob Joseph just told MSNBC that the Mayor told him that 13 of the hostages have been killed. The report is unconfirmed. The shooter is said to be an Asian man, about 5'9", in his 20s.
