Hula Lessons, Leis Offered at Times Square at Noon
Gonna be midtown at noon? Wearing comfortable clothing? You are invited by Kaui Beamer (Taquita & Kaui) to learn to hula in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Hawaiian statehood outside the Hawaiian Tropic Zone on Times Square. Beamer and you will be joined by "sexy Hawaiian dancers and performers dressed in authentic in traditional skirts" and you will receive a free lei, which is a better offer than most. Hawaiians have mixed feelings about the anniversary, but we say anything that brings grass skirts to Times Square is to be celebrated. The promoters also inform us that "Caribaya Rum will offering 50 cent Pina Coladas throughout the lunch hour in the City of New York," though they don't say exactly where. Aloha!
