I'll Have Another Bails On Belmont; No Triple Crown This Year
I'll Have Another is out.
If you were hoping to see a Triple Crown winner this year, we have some bad news: I'll Have Another, the winner of both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, won't be running in the Belmont Stakes.
Trainer Doug O'Neil announced on the Dan Patrick Radio Show this morning that the colt has a "little problem" in his left hind leg that will keep him from racing this weekend.
I'll Have Another currently is the favorite -- with 4/5 odds -- in Sunday's race. If he were to win, he'd be the first Triple Crown winner in 34 years.
I'll Have Another is now the 12th horse in Belmont's 144-year history to win both the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby and not compete in the third leg of the Triple Crown. The last horse to do so was Affirmed in 1978.
I'll Have Another's owner, Paul Reddam, is scheduled to hold a 1 p.m. news conference to officially announce that the horse will be scratched.
