Inside the Peppy and Jumpy World of Skipping Club [Video]
What is skipping club?
Michelle Joni Lapidos, 28, started her skipping club six months ago as a way for people to come together and experience the joys of skipping. As far as she knows, it's the only one of its kind. Check out our video after the jump.
Michelle Joni's Skipping Club is free and open to all who happen to have time to hang out on Thursday afternoons. City locations vary from week to week, and past themes ranged from My Little Pony to the Gay Pride parade. Besides the social aspect, Lapidos noted the health benefits that can be derived from skipping. "When I discovered skipping, I realized it was so much fun that you don't realize you're getting a workout," she said.
Although skipping is her main form of exercise, she recently tried running and found that skipping had increased her stamina enough to run two miles. When she's not skipping or organizing skipping meets from her Upper West Side abode, Lapidos does social media and marketing for her family's business, which operates Beatles conventions around the country.
