Jimmy McMillan, 'Rent Is Too Damn High' Guy, Is Getting Evicted
Remember Jimmy McMillan, the "Rent Is Too Damn High" guy who ran for governor of New York, and also has something of a musical career? The New York Post reports that he, like Faye Dunaway, is having real estate troubles. Also like Faye Dunaway, his troubles are with his landlord, who wants to kick him out, apparently, because he doesn't occupy his apartment as a primary residence and instead lives in Brooklyn. McMillan pays $872.96 for that rent-controlled apartment on St. Marks Place, near Voice HQ, though we've never seen him around. He's had the place since the '70s, when rent was a paltry $275. Master of the catchphrase, McMillan says, "It's about 'My Rent is Too Damn Low.'" And, since that governor thing didn't work out, McMillan is devoting his time to helping his lawyer handle his eviction case, which is now pending in Housing Court. Also, he doesn't live in Brooklyn, he says. That's just his office. Don't worry if you're confused. We've contacted him for comment. [NYP]
