Jockbeat: Come on, Jets, Giants -- take a chance on T.O.!
Come on, NFL GMs. Isn't there anyone out there interested in signing Terrell Owens? Like maybe the Giants or Jets or some other team that has recently lost a key wide receiver? A team that maybe thinks it's just one stud away from going to the Super Bowl? A team that could work him in under the salary cap for a one-year deal?
Sure, he's a pain in the ass, but what star wide receiver in this era isn't? Sure, he's 35, but he can still wheel -- last year he caught 69 passes good for 10 touchdowns and a yards/catch average of 15.2. This is considerably better than Amani Toomer, who is only a few months younger than Owens and averaged just 12.1 yards/catch with 48 catches overall and four TDs. For that matter, Owens is a more dangerous deep threat than Plaxico Burress: over the last two seasons, he's averaged 16.0 yards a grab to Plaxico's 14.1. If Burress's big talent was for spreading opposing defenses, how much more might T.O. spread them?
Owens's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is confident he can find a deal for the six-time Pro Bowler on someone's roster. The Daily News' Rich Cimini and Ralph Vacchiano report that the Giants have "zero interest" in signing Owens. Let's hope this is just a negotiating ploy to keep T.O.'s price down.
