Lingerie Bowl VI Cancelled
We have tried and largely failed to pay attention to football (Allen Barra's Jockbeat does a good job there), but some sports stories transcend their category. This year's Lingerie Bowl, an annual tackle football tournament featuring models in their underwear, has been cancelled. Having failed to get permission to use fields elsewhere in Tampa, Florida, Bowl management scheduled the game between the Miami Caliente and the Tampa Breeze at a local nudist resort, but found it could not get a guarantee from the resort that residents attending the event would wear enough clothing to meet broadcast specifications. (The pay-per-view special was to air during the Super Bowl halftime.) "I can tell them where they can't have clothes on," a spokeswoman for the Caliente clothing-optional resort told WFTS-TV, "but I can't tell them where they must have clothes." The League or whatever it is will concentrate instead on a season of rebuilding. Calls to our bookie were unreturned at press time.
