Before we get down to what's goin' on, let's go over what's not going on. In the span of a few weeks, several nights are dropping out or moving house. The biggest (temporary) casualty is Little Louie Vega's relatively new weekly Dance Ritual, which is pulling out of the Pinky room Wednesday night slot due to some disagreeable circumstances?which I can't yet get into here. Don't fear; they will be returning in the new year to a new, undisclosed location.
Also movin' on are the folks at La Leche, previously held at Fun on Fridays, who are looking for a new home (possibly over the river) in 2002. Last, Electroclash god Larry Tee is ending his Sunday night jam Club Badd at Joe's Pub to concentrate on his double-header in Brooklyn, Mutants and Berliniansburg, both held at Club Luxx, Friday and Saturday, respectively, 256 Grand, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 718-599-1000.
Thankfully, there's still something to do in this city, though on Friday night you'll have to venture to DUMBO to do it. Spooky's new weekly, dubbed Synchronic: A Weekly Experiment With Time (he doesn't keep things simple, does he?), features hard techno local DJ Hell, as well as the super cool, gothic cello trio Rasputina, who I'm glad to hear are still around. With DJ Duane, Byzar; in the lounge: the Intuition Crew Visuals: Dorian Orange. Friday at 10, the Lunatarium, 10 Jay, DUMBO, Brooklyn, 718-813-8404.
My favorite local minimal house jock, the fabulous DJ Plexus, is all over the place this weekend, hosting and spinning three nights in a row: First he's at the bawdily named 2nd Hand Cunt, spinning under the moniker Schrofftown Traffic with buddy John W. Smokes Jr. Thursday @ 10, Idlewild 145 E Houston, 477-5005. The next night, get more techno, electro, and tech house goodies from Plexus and his friends at Delay. Friday @ 10, Drinkland, 339 E 10th, 228-2435. And finish off the weekend at Funk as Puck. After three consecutive nights with Plex, you won't ever want to see his face again!! Saturday at 10, Open Air, 121 St. Marks Place, 979-1459.
