Starting this week, the holiday party season is officially in high gear. Have a gay ol' time at the Royal Bitches' Silver Balls: The XMess Bitch!!, a monthly tranny-fest at the Spider Club (Avalon's exclusive bar). Queen of all trannies, Amanda Lepore, performs at the party, which is hosted by her lipsticked friends Kenny Kenny, Sophia Lamar, the Trinity, Cocoa Browne, and other crazy club kids from the days gone by. Somehow they've managed to nab Tommie Sunshine as their guest DJ. He'll be spinning (hopefully not in a dress, which he's been known to do) with '90s standby Keoki. Monday @ 11, Spider Club, 47 W 20th, 212.807.7780
For more big, gay fun, head to Charm School, Lyle Derek and Michael Cavadias's (a/k/a Lily of the Valley) new event, which aims to be a "weekly lesson in bad taste." Miss Guy and Lily spin, but this week's real treat is a special appearance by the legendary queen Sherry Vine, who smartened up several years ago and fled this city for Berlin. Also worthy of your attention is the debut solo performance of Opti-Grab's main man, John Roberts. Friday @ 9, Darklight, 366 Eighth Ave, 212.279.8628
The new Repellent magazine party, Start It Up, isn't a gay affair, but it should still be entertaining. The first go features Snax (another former New Yorker who lives in Berlin), plus a live p.a. from Neulander. Local DJs Plexus, Dan Selzer, Unknown, and g.rizo dust off their favorite post-disco, new wave, microhouse, and electro records, providing a little variety for the picky masses. Isabel Reiss's documentary Bigger Than Us screens at start of the night. Friday @ 8:30, Rothko, 116 Suffolk, rothkonyc.com
