Nostalgic for the days when there were numerous überclubs around the city and you didn't even know the cabaret law existed? Dreaming of acid house and breaks and the early onset of jungle and 'ardcore? Wish extra-baggy pants were still in style? You can relive your early raving years at the NASA REWIND jam at the same exact venue the party was held at 11 years ago. The promoters, DB and SCOTTO, claim the original party has become "mythic in club culture," so perhaps we might be a little disappointed if we don't see triple during this go-round, which features the DJs from the first party, all of whom are playing their favorite tunes from the early '90s. Get ready for super-sized aceeeed sets from DB, Frankie Bones, Scott Henry, Scott Hardkiss, Kicks Like a Mule, Soul Slinger, Jason Jinx, Mr. Kleen, On-E (Ani), Joeski, Keoki (!!!), and Odi.
Saturday @ 10, Arc, 6 Hubert, 212.330.8233
Most of the drum'n'bass stars became DJs out of necessity; they produced hot tracks and needed a way to make a living. DJs from the Metalheadz crew, however, are proper DJs, and DJ Lee is one of the label's best mixmasters. Like his cohorts, he chooses a more varied path than the usual droning, one-note pounding other d'n'b jocks opt forletting in a little light and love. With DJ Still, Clever, and Sheik Mon at the city's best jungle weekly, DIRECT DRIVE.
Saturday @ 10, Rare, 416 W 14th, 212.613.0900
Seven is the lucky number for NYC's best-known bhangra DJ. Miss Rekha and her wreckin' cru celebrate BASEMENT BHANGRA's seventh birthday bash. With a special live performance from Bikram Singh and his new band, plus free mojitos, and a piece of B-day cake if you get there crazy early (at 7). Thursday @ 7, SOB's, 200 Varick, 212.252.2392, basementbhangra.com
