Have a three-way with Fischerspooner, who have managed to play a fun trick on the entire press corps by convincing the world they are serious artistes. To be sure, Casey Spooner and Warren Fischer nailed it on the head when they started giving the people what they wanted: pure artifice, accompanied by highbrow drivel, outlandish costumes, and a techno beat. The joke is on us, and I love 'em for it. See the duo twice nightly for a three-day run at the Deitch Art Gallery (which further cements Spooner's art fag credentials). Wednesday through Friday at 8 and 10, Deitch Projects, 18 Wooster, 343-7300.
As our very own Nita Rao detailed a few weeks ago (duly scooping The New York Times, I might add), Bollywood is go! And nobody's more fit to throw a Bollywood Disco party than queen of the bhangra scene DJ Rekha, who launches her new gig with the help of Metro Area's Darshan Jesrani. Rehka already bases much of her sets on Bollywood lore, and here she gets a chance to shine a spotlight on it with the help of some colorful visuals. Wednesday at 8, Opaline, 85 Avenue A, 995-8604.
Tronic Treatment sometimes veers toward meathead techno (too hard, no soul, and too ravey), but sometimes it is spot on, as with this lineup including Plus 8's Kooky Scientist and local boy wonders John Selway and Plexus. Selway is an international superstar on three musical fronts: techno, electro, and progressive. Tonight, I bet, we hear only the first two. Plexus is my favorite minimalist in the city. I cry that I can't go to see him at the defunct Temple Records store, where he'd hand-pick my tech house records. Woe is me! Hear them all and weep! Monday at 10, Baktun, 418 W 14th, 206-1590.
