Luis Rivera Dies; Built Stuffed Animal Scenes on Bedford Avenue
Miss Heather sends us some sad news from Williamsburg; Luis Rivera, creator of the peculiar stuffed animal displays that have enlivened the vacant lot at North 1st Street and Bedford Avenue in recent years, has died. Heather found a note hanging on the hurricane fence there, notifying the neighborhood that Rivera had passed last Wednesday. She recounts the explanation Rivera once gave her for one installation in which a gorilla was seated at a computer with a bottle of brandy: "He's looking for an online date."
Heather reproduces pictures of this and other Rivera tableaux. No cause of death is cited.
