Man Allegedly Makes Bomb Threat Because of Hurricane Irene; DSK Back in Paris; Groupon IPO in Trouble?
Rajiv Pandey, a 33-year-old Long Island man, is accused of making a bomb threat Friday to the Long Island Power Authority because he was upset at losing his power during Hurricane Irene. The Daily News reports Pandey "called the newsroom at News 12 Long Island, warning he would place a bomb inside an unspecified LIPA facility, Nassau County cops said." After searching 30 LIPA locations without finding anything, police traced his cell phone and arrested him yesterday. He is being charged with falsely reporting an incident. [NYDN]
Libyan rebels are poised to attack a Qaddafi stronghold and expect loyalist to surrender rather than fight. Moammar Qaddafi is thought to be hiding in one of several towns like Bani Walid, which is 90 miles southeast of Tripoli. "Rebels control most of Libya and are moving forward with setting up a new government, but they might hold off on declaring victory until [Qaddafi] is caught and his remaining strongholds are defeated." Dominique Strauss-Kahn returned to Paris for the first time since being accused of sexual assault. He was "greeted with applause" at Charles de Gaulle airport. Because of credibility issues with his accuser, Nafissatou Diallo, Strauss-Kahn had all charges dropped after spending time under house arrest and a brief stay in jail. [CNN]
The IPO for online coupon company Groupon might be delayed, Forbes reports. Their initial public offering hit a snag after Chief Executive Andrew Mason sent a company-wide Email that concerned members of the SEC. Companies are supposed to be in a "quiet period" during the lead up to their IPO. [Forbes]
