Mark Madoff, Bernie Madoff's Son, Found Dead in Apparent Suicide
Bernie Madoff's son Mark, 46, was found dead in his New York City apartment this morning, the New York Post is reporting. Discovered by his father-in-law, with his 2-year-old son in the apartment, Madoff was found hanging, brutally, "from a dog collar attached to a pipe in the apartment ceiling." Saturday is the two-year anniversary of Bernie Madoff's arrest.
According to the Post, Mark had worried his wife, who is currently in Florida with the couple's 4-year-old child, in email exchanges. She sent her father to check on him.
This week, Madoff's sons, including Mark's brother Andrew, were sued by their father's victims, despite their repeated claim that they had no idea of their father's crimes while they worked as brokers in his company.
Mark's attorney released the following statement this morning:
"Mark Madoff took his own life today. This is a terrible and unnecessary tragedy. Mark was an innocent victim of his father's monstrous crime who succumbed to two years of unrelenting pressure from false accusations and innuendo. We are all deeply saddened by this shocking turn of events."
