Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn Borough President, Joins Twitter
Following in the footsteps of local politicians like Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Rep. Anthony Weiner, who have both shown exceptional online acumen, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz has started an official Twitter account, joining every other functional politician nationwide with at least one intern worth their salt.
In his first message, Markowitz called out "haters," a term old people are really abusing these days, along with "imitators," and then he used two hashtags. So far, the rest of his feed is made up of shallow contact with his constituents and two retweets, one of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and one of the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Markowitz, or whichever staffer (intern) is running the account, is already following Mayor Mike Bloomberg, but went first for Jay Otano, Markowitz's own lawyer. Hopefully that's unrelated to the lawsuit alleging "his office is run like a frat house."
