Michael Pena, Off-Duty NYPD Cop, Arrested for Allegedly Raping a Woman in Inwood Today
An off-duty cop has been arrested and charged with the alleged rape of a woman in Inwood earlier this morning. The New York Post gives his name as Michael Pena, 25, from the 33rd Precinct, a member of the force for three years. The incident occurred in the back courtyard of a building on Park Terrace West and West 217th Street at 6:45 a.m. this morning. According to DNA Info, the man held a gun to the woman's head as he raped her, and also "flashed a badge at some point."
A neighbor who called the police said he had seen the couple having sex outside his window after waking up to a lot of noise.
When he confronted the man, saying, "Dude, I live here," the suspect responded by holding up his hand, saying, "Just give me a minute."
Pena may also have asked the woman, who is now at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, for directions, put his arm around her, and forced her into the backyard.
The witness called the police, who arrived and took Pena into custody. He has been confirmed as an NYPD cop by Ibrahim Khan, deputy chief of staff for state Sen. Adriano Espaillat.
The Post reports,
According to a neighbor's second-hand account, a different witness confronted the couple, and the man said:
"I'm almost done. I'm almost finished. We'll be out of here soon."
