Moammar Gaddafi Has a Mad Crush on Condoleezza Rice
And they will know you by the scrapbooks you leave behind. Or, as MSNBC puts it, "the ransacking of Moammar Gaddafi's compound is turning up some bizarre loot." What sort of bizarre? Well, there was a lot of fashion accessorizing going on, apparently, and a mermaid couch (Gadhafi's daughter's, not his own) and, perhaps most tellingly, a photo album chock-full of pictures of none other than Condoleezza Rice, all available to the curious eyes of the rebels who invaded Gadhafi's Tripoli compound, and therefore the media.
However, Gaddafi's love for Rice is not new. He has loved her since at least 2007, in which he proclaimed her, in an interview with al-Jazeera, basically, the bee's knees, and then some.
"I support my darling black African woman," he said. "I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders ... Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. ... I love her very much. I admire her and I'm proud of her because she's a black woman of African origin."
And in 2008, he even got to pose for a picture with her, and they had dinner, and it was positively romantic!
Rice and Qadhafi are no strangers -- the two shared an intimate, late-night dinner together three years ago, as Qadhafi broke the Ramadan fast. "The strong scent of incense hung heavy in the air," wrote The Washington Post in September 2008. "His [Qadhafi's] face lit up when he saw Rice. ... Gaddafi simply placed his right hand over his chest, a traditional and respectful welcome."
Why, however, Gaddafi insists on using old-world physical photo albums instead of simply posting his pictures on Facebook and tagging Condi is a question for the ages. You can't take that photo album with you when you flee, sir!
