More Hard Luck for Robert Straniere
The Observer focuses on just how tough things are these days for Bob Straniere, former hot dog king, current Manhattan resident and GOP Congressional candidate for the Staten Island-based 13th District. The paper reports that so far, "none of the Republican elected officials on Staten Island have endorsed his candidacy." Most vociferously not endorsing him is former Beep Guy Molinari, who previously said Straniere had "brought nothing but grief to the Republican Party," and who now tells the Observer, "I’d pay for a one-way ticket for him to go any place in the country just to get [him] out of our hair."
The paper also says Straniere is accused, in his previous incarnation as an Assemblyman, of being "unresponsive to constituents, distracted by countless lawsuits filed against him by former business partners, and rarely actually in the district." His Democratic opponent for drunk driver Vito Fossella's seat, Michael McMahon, is heavily favored.
