More Pressure On Mayor On Term Limits
Mayor Bloomberg's getting more pushback on term limits, which he has hinted he wants dumped. Comptroller Bill Thompson tells the New York Sun, "If the mayor's position has changed on term limits... I think the public is owed an explanation now," adding, "and quickly" to better express urgency, we guess. The New York Daily News amplifies Thompson's remarks, and the New York Times has Thompson and a number of other local officials urging the Mayor to come clean, and the Mayor himself saying, "The City Council has a right to do things. I’ve never, ever said the City Council doesn’t have a right to do anything," which means whatever happens, you can't pin it on him.
