• Bob Guccione, founder of Penthouse, porn "innovator," offender of many, has died at the age of 79 in Plano, Texas, after a long battle with throat cancer. R.I.P., The Gooch. [NYT]

• Strikes and protests in France over the government's proposal to raise the national retirement age from 60 to 62 continue. Side effect: Lady Gaga has postponed two Paris shows this weekend, and the 60-year-olds are probably pissed. Also, 428 people have been arrested. A final vote on the bill could come as early as today. [CNN]

• NPR has fired news analyst Juan Williams after he appeared on The O'Reilly Factor saying "Look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous." [Politico]

• Toyota is recalling 1.53 million cars -- Lexus, Avalon, and other models -- primarily in the U.S. and Japan, due to brake fluid and fuel pump problems. [NPR]

• A bunch of fake cabbies were arrested in the Bronx yesterday. [NYP]

• A 10-pound, 6-foot-long Burmese python was found in St. Nicholas Park in Harlem. Animal Care and Control speculates it was a house pet that got "too large" or "too aggressive" for its owner. Eek. [DNAInfo]

• An 11-month-old Great Dane named Scooby was shot in the leg when a man fired into a crowd in Bed-Stuy on Tuesday. The dog is in stable condition, and very much deserves a Scooby snack. [NYP]
