Murdoch Offers Actual Apology for Monkey Cartoon

We had hoped never to hear of it again, but it must be noted that Rupert Murdoch, publisher of the New York Post, has apologized for the stimulus-ape-maybe-Obama cartoon that inflamed passions last week. In contrast to the sorry-you're-such-jerks non-apology the paper issued on Friday, Murdoch's mea culpa is conciliatory. "Over the past couple of days, I have spoken to a number of people and I now better understand the hurt this cartoon has caused," he says, and calls the cartoon a "mistake" for which he is compelled to "personally apologize," as "the buck stops with me."

This is believed to be the first time that Murdoch has apologized to anyone besides Chinese dictators or people who were suing him.
