Nate Silver (and Puppies) Knows Who Wins the Super Bowl
Nate Silver, the statistical genius who predicted the outcome of the last two presidential elections and the most recent Senate race, has now revealed his pick for the winner of the Super Bowl. Are you ready for it?
Nope, it's actually the San Francisco 49ers. And, unfortunately for Baltimore Ravens fans, Silver's not the only one who thinks the Niners will emerge on top during this Sunday's game -- the puppies of Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl are also placing their bets on San Francisco.
Silver credits the 49ers great defense for giving them the edge they need to defeat the Ravens, writing "Of the 92 teams to have played in the Super Bowl before this year, I identified those with the 20 best defensive and offensive ratings....Their winning percentage is actually nearly 80 percent when you ignore the three cases, Super Bowls IV, VIII and XLV, when two of the all-time great defensive teams faced each other." Like the adage goes, the best offense is a good defense.
Meanwhile, the puppies' analysis centers around cake popularity, as you can see in the video above. When presented with a purple cake (which represents the Ravens) and a red one (for the Niners), the puppies nearly unanimously chose to chow down on the latter. However, in the clip, one slacker puppy isn't eating cake at all, so maybe that one can conjure up a late-in-the-game comeback when all the other puppies are nursing tummy aches.
You know what this means, right? We can skip the Super Bowl entirely and watch the Puppy Bowl instead, since we already know who wins the football game.
