New Year's Eve 2008 Pursuits
Affairs Afloat's paddleboat and two DJs bring Top 40, retro, R&B, and hip-hop to the Statue of Liberty fireworks display. The boat offers a three-hour open bar and hors d'oeuvres; a dockside party follows at 1 a.m.

It's all Bach all night at Bargemusic, New York's "floating concert hall." Cellos, flutes, and violins fill the night air on New Year's Eve, while audience members are treated to champagne and cookies.

Cheeseburgers, beer, and mindless video games more your style? Then ring in the new year at Dave and Busters, which has over 31,500 square feet of entertainment options along its "million dollar midway," loaded with SkeeBall, PacMan, and Super Trivia. D&B also offers one of the choices for those under 21 unlucky enough to score a fake ID: booze-free tickets for the kids are $100; general admission otherwise costs $125.

The New York Road Runners Club's annual midnight run begins at Tavern on the Green with a DJ and dancing, a parade, fireworks, and a costume contestthen participants are off to Central Park for the 5K fun run. Champagne is offered at the halfway point, and Emerald Nuts, the race sponsor, offers prizes for best costume and best resolution. FYI: Entry fees are cash-only.

The 2007 Countdown Cruise sets sail from the Skyport Marina on the East Side of Manhattan. Dance all night, and return to land at 2 a.m. after watching the fireworks from the harbor. They're giving away disposable cameras and raffling off a three-hour limo tour of New York, in addition to the standard open bar, buffet dinner, champagne toast, and DJ.

Enjoy four hours of cruising around New York Harbor with views of the skyline and the fireworks at the Statue of Liberty. The three-deck, 600-passenger Spirit of New York offers a buffet, open bar, live cabaret show, DJ, and dancing.

If your resolutions include a greener 2008, start your year off right with the environmentally friendly Time's Up bike ride. It's the organization's 10th annual New Year's Eve party ride, in which the group meets up at Washington Square Park under the arch and heads up to Belvedere Castle in the middle of Central Park for a free and festive dance party.
