Nicaraguan Diplomat Killed Self With Drain Cleaner
Police sources tell the New York Post today that Cesar Mercado, the 34-year-old Nicaraguan diplomat found dead in his South Bronx apartment last month during the U.N. General Assembly, committed suicide.
The Post, citing anonymous "police sources," says Mercado attempted to sever his own head "after drinking drain cleaner and ripping out tufts of his hair." The paper says he then "stabbed himself multiple times and slashed his own throat" and that Nicaraguan pathologists confirmed the police findings.
