NYC BigApps Voting Starts Today: We Have a Preference!
Public voting begins today for the NYC BigApps competition.
The city-sponsored $20,000 software competition aims to create a more " transparent, accessible, and accountable" New York.
There are a lot of cool apps in the competition, but there's one in particular that we're rooting for -- because it's based on a Voice cover story!
Sure, there's some fierce competition:
New York Knicks vs. Memphis Grizzlies
TicketsSat., Oct. 29, 7:30pm
New York Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
TicketsSun., Oct. 30, 7:00pm
St. John's Red Storm Men's Basketball vs. Baruch College Bearcats Men's Basketball
TicketsMon., Oct. 31, 7:00pm
Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Bulls
TicketsMon., Oct. 31, 7:30pm
-- An app that will help you track city campaign spending in real-time
-- An app that merges restaurant inspection data with sites like yelp, citysearch, menupages, and opentable.
-- An app that leverages 3-1-1 complaint data into social media platforms, essentially promoting the art of the 'group gripe session'
-- An app that plots all the historical signs and plaques in Manhattan on a map and allows you to zoom in on them.
But we're rooting for the geeks who read our 'Who's My Landlord?" cover story and decided to build an app that helps people track down bad landlords, good landlords, and other kinds of useful housing information.
We're biased, but the app is a real great tool and one we'll be using in our reporting in the future. You can vote for it and for the other apps here.
