NYC RFD: Mets, Yankees Warn Souvenir Hunters; Also, Death, Lindsay Lohan
The folks at Shea and Yankee Stadiums want you to enjoy your final season in these hallowed ballfields, but if you try to filch a memento you will be led away in cuffs. That's the message of an obviously planted New York Daily News story, which states that "already this year, fans have been found stealing outfield bunting, Shea Stadium seats, even a Yankee Stadium toilet seat," describes this crime wave as "an indication of possible trouble ahead," and warns that ballpark "security and scrutiny have been set on high."
Eight-year-old Alexander "Zander" Toulouse was riding bikes with his dad Saturday afternoon when a Post Office van struck and killed him at the intersection of Livingston Street and Boerum Place, says NY1.
The New York Daily News reports a Saturday night murder-suicide in Brownsville: a long-absent boyfriend showed up, an argument ensued, and shots were fired, says witnesses.
Near the corner of Laurel Hill Boulevard and 64th Street in Long Island City, a homeless man killed a homeless woman Saturday night, reports Newsday. His name is Michael Bowan; the name of the woman, who was discovered lying on an off-ramp, has not been released.
The lone Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn event we attended was pretty stressful, but we're glad we didn't make it to the opening of Fashion Week in Bryant Park this weekend, where the appearance of Lindsay Lohan and companion Samantha Roson caused a "near riot," says amNY, and they couldn't even get any good photos, though agencies sold them a bunch, which they have posted. (Marie Claire says "New York Fashion Week Kicks Off in Style," which may be another way of saying the same thing.)
