NYPD Names Midtown Stabbing Suspect
The cops say they have the name of the man in the picture snapped by a tourist around the time Christopher Gutierrez was stabbed to death Sunday, and whom they consider the prime suspect. He's Sirmone McCaulla, 28, a military veteran who served in Kuwait and has a criminal record. An officer who'd "had contact" with McCaulla ID'd him from the photo; now the cops are after him.
Gutierrez and (it is believed) McCaulla bumped into each other in front of the Farley Post Office on Eight Avenue near 33rd Street on Sunday. Both parties made as if to fight, Commissioner Kelly says, but the perpetrator came up with a knife. After felling Gutierrez, the perp started to leave, then returned to pick up his cell phone, which he'd apparently dropped, before continuing on his way. As always, if you have any information as to this man or this incident, NYPD asks you to contact 1-800-577-TIPS(8477), www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or text 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577.
