Obama-Beating Boardwalk Game Faces Public Stink-Eye
If George Bush was the butt of all jokes, Barack Obama is the outlet of choice for pent-up anger -- or at least his plastic "likeness" is. A boardwalk game in Sea Side Heights -- the city with the probable highest amount of testosterone per capita and the summer home of Snooki, the Situation, and the gang -- features an Obama figure alongside Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, Michael Jackson, and several other public figures.
The object of the game is to hit a plate out of the hands of the famous and infamous cast of characters. Not surprisingly, Obama's inclusion in that cast is offensive to many passersby -- offensive enough that after a video of the game (below) went viral this week, a Lucky Leo's arcade employee put a bag over the President's head to shroud him from public scrutiny. Because throwing balls at a President with a bag over his head is far more respectful...
The creator of the game told CBS 3 in Philadelphia that he meant no harm. "I hope it doesn't offend anybody ... it didn't offend us," Tommy Whalen said. "It's just all for fun ... I'm not making fun of anybody."
He also said there are more targets to look forward to. "We have Sarah Palin, we have Hillary Clinton, we have G.W. Bush coming." But isn't pummeling Saddam Hussein or even Sarah Palin with baseballs a little different, and dare I say more acceptable, than whacking our president with flying objects? What kind of message does this send to terrorists?
