OKCupid Analyzes Gay Sex Trends; Finds Straight Users Far More Sexually Interested in Gays Than Vice Versa

OKTrends, the dating research branch of OKCupid, is a font of fascinating information, from what white people like (at least for online dating purposes) to why men might want to consider dating older women. Today they pull out a range of data about their gay and straight users and found the following:

• Out of 4 million match searches, not a single gay user, male or female, ever searched primarily for straight people. (Translation: Gays are NOT sexually interested in straight people, and will not try to "convert" them. Hear that, U.S. military?*)
--only 0.6% of gay men have ever searched for straight matches.
--only 0.1% of lesbians have ever searched for straight matches.
--only 0.13% of straight people's profile visitors are gay.

• The median reported sex partners regardless of gender or sexual orientation was 6. No more, no less, for women, men, straight, or gay.

• Of 252,900 straight people, men and women, 17% had had a sexual encounter with someone of the same sex, and 11% hadn't but "would like to."

• In what should surprise no one, Mississippi (followed by Alabama) would admit the least gay curiosity.

There's tons more to this interesting breakdown of the numbers, which is well worth checking out -- including the graphed desires and interests of gay vs. straight men and women. (Straight women, for instance, top the charts in religiousness, optimism, and being "into sports," while gay women admit the most to using drugs -- as well as being kinky, adventurous, and artsy.)

There's also a "What Gay People Like" chart that seems to indicate we have a lot in common with gay men. No surprise there. Mean Girls is an excellent movie.

*As we finished this post, we got word that a federal judge has issued a worldwide injunction stopping enforcement of "don't ask, don't tell." OKCupid probably had nothing to do with that, we'd like to thank them anyway.
