"Person of interest" in Laura Garza's disappearance goes to jail for something else
Michael Mele, the Orange County convicted sex offender who police have been looking at pretty hard in the disappearance of Laura Garza, faces up to 3 years in prison for not registering his new address with the state. Mele, who apparently likes to masturbate in front of women and children, was forced onto the sex offender registry as part of his guilty plea for doing just that in the parking garage of the Palisades Center Mall.
The texan-born Garza was last seen leaving a club with Mele in December of 2008. Mele was never officially tied to her disappearance. The unregistered address change was discovered during the Garza investigation.
