Prince Harry Not Attending This Year's Governors Island Polo Match
Polo is once again coming to Governors Island this weekend for the fourth annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, but this year it is without what has become its main attraction: Prince Harry. The city tittered with excitement last year when Harry landed on our shores for a summer jaunt. Back then, he did things like visit the Harlem Children's Zone, fall off his horse, and be on-again-off again with Chelsy Davy. But this year, despite our Royal Wedding frenzy, we will be Harry-less.
Upon asking about the prince's presence, we received this statement from Veuve Clicquot:
For the past two years, Veuve Clicquot has been proud to support Prince Harry's charity Sentebale and have him play in the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. This year, the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic will benefit Hope Help & Rebuild Haiti (HHRH), an initiative of Urban Zen and the next evolution of Hope Help & Relief Haiti. Veuve Clicquot is inspired and moved by HHRH's mission and the many organizations it supports in Haiti.
Never fear, though, the event still promises to have its fair share of heartthrob and celebrity. Dreamy polo sensation Nacho Figueras will be on the field with his team Black Watch and Hugh Jackman is the Master of Ceremonies, so there might even be singing and dancing.
Donna Karan is the founder of Urban Zen, and is one of the event's co-hosts along with Figueras and his wife, Delfina Blaquier, Marc Jacobs and the president of Veuve Clicquot USA. Members of this year's host committee (a different thing) include novelist Georgina Bloomberg and foot-runner-overer Andrés Santo Domingo.
And, despite Harry's appeal, there are so many royals to chose from nowadays, he's really nothing to get that excited about anyway.
