Report: New WTC Not Ready Till '30, Occupied Till '37

Every so often somebody tells us that it's going to a take a while for the new World Trade Center to be built. It's now reported that a Cushman & Wakefield analysis of developer Larry Silverstein's plan, prepared for the Port Authority, shows the three new towers will probably not be completed until 2030. Even worse: the report expects the first tower won't have tenants till 2019 and the three buildings won't be fully occupied until 2037. It seems strange to be able to say this, but many of us will be dead before then.

A Silverstein spokesman called the report "totally pessimistic," but after seven and a half years of dithering, total pessimism is the default position.

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum, at least, is getting most of the money it was promised from big business despite the downturn, and seems to still be on track for 2011 and 2012, respectively.
