Scientology on the High Seas: The Littlest Sailors!
In November we started a new feature here on Fridays: the Voice has obtained hundreds of copies of L. Ron Hubbard's previously unpublished "Orders of the Day," which he gave to crew members as he sailed the Mediterranean. Our documents cover the period from late 1968 through 1971, and this time we're looking at what was happening the week of January 15 through 21 during those years.
After the jump, LRH explains his feelings about child labor...
[Confused? Go here for our primer, "What is Scientology?" For recent controversies in the church, check out our stories on Debbie Cook, secrets of the Super Power Building, and spying on Tom Cruise. We know these 40-year-old ship's documents aren't for everyone, but they've been giving us some interesting insights into the mind of Hubbard as he ran Scientology from a yacht in the Mediterranean. Check back here often for more breaking news about the church.]
January 21: Good publicity!
Our M.O. Dr. Steve Jarvis has just had a 2 page spread article on Scientology in "GP", the Medical Doctors' journal in the UK.
It is a splendid article, pointing up Scn's role in psychosomatic medicine.
The magazine asked for an article, three MDs in Scn submitted them. Dr. Jarvis's article won. Copies will be mailed to all parliaments.
Coronet magazine in the US printed an article by me, preceding it with a SMERSH write up.
However, the article calmly made nothing of the attack and reader opinion is that it will do us a lot of good.
January 16: LRH explains an important concept.
The factor of income-outgo is that one must have more income than outgo for an org to live at all. This is the primary thing that ECs and staffs overlook. It is the only thing really that can wipe out an org.
This fact is not real to the DK area or Sweden even yet. FP Ed No. 1 has to be done in an org to see how much it costs to run it and how much income is the minimum it has to make, Regardless of stat pattern rises and falls, if the GI never gets up to org cost then the org will go broke and cease to exist. The Cash-Bills graph is more important than the GI alone.
DK should now be running, since reorg, on less outgo than income.
ASHO in November ran t less income than outgo (loss of $3,000) which is why there is an effort to combine AsHO and AOLA.
In management this factor -- the income-outgo ratio -- is just something that can't be ignored as it can destroy an org and is, by experience, the only thing which can. It is also the hardest thing to get across to ECs. One has to increase income to exceed outgo and also decrease outgo so it is less than income -- both actions are usually necessary.
I doubt there is a more important management datum than this. Or one which is more consistently ignored in orgs.
January 19: Ethics is madly out on the planet.
I see the crew appreciates all the sunshine. So do I.
I've reviewed program summaries of all Aides except 4. Things are not too bad. 1969 was the year of Out-Ethics. In 1970 I trust all SO members will wear their ethics hats. Every SO member has one.
Every time we ease up or drop Ethics we get horrible problems and stats. It can be plotted on the Int GI.
Fact is Ethics is madly out on the planet. Definition of some Earth wog leaders -- somebody who is trying to get even with everybody else. Definition of psychiatry: the government's method of getting even with the insane.
The ship is doing excellently well and I am proud of all of you.
January 18: LRH on the status of "children." (Yes, the quote marks are his.)
By FO No. 301 a Condition of non-existence is assigned to any member of the ships company that obstructs a child from doing his or her work, deprives the child of his possessions or his job.
This applies to all cadets and Middies as well.
GOING THE SAME WAY
If we all begin to travel in the same direction we will get there an awful lot faster and with a lot less collisions.
January 19: You will not only clean those bilges, but enjoy doing it!
The most delightful fellow you ever want to meet is the fellow who is doing what he is posted to do.
We have a few.
It would be wonderful if we had a few more!
At this stage of reorganization it may look scrambled here and there.
It unscrambles with
Org Bds Posting Mini Hatting Full Hatting And people then doing what their title says they do.
It is as simple as that.
January 20: Whatever happened to Jo Albert? (Also, I want a "Kokomo Coaudit" T-shirt!)
After working several weeks to get them on post and several days to get them assigned to auditing and several more to get them assigned pcs, I am able to announce that actual bona-fide Dianetic R3R Triple is available in the HGC.
Anyone not on some other major rundown who wants some case gains is invited to apply.
This is real Dianetics, not Kokomo Coaudit brand where the course "supervisor" went on vacation as soon as the SO Dianetic Supervisor Missionaires left in '69.
Sessions lately given here have been blowing minds.
Our 13 year old star Dianetic auditor Jo Albert hung on for six hours on one session day before yesterday and changed the pc's whole life. Secret of her success? She does flubless commands. It's real Dianetics. You should try some.
Confront of Mest and work causes valence shifts and a run out of past non-confronts.
Aside from medical reasons such as colds or flu there will be no more isolations. Instead, the person is placed on a transfer routing form.
I don't know, the thought of some 13-year-old interrogating me with the same questions, over and over for six hours straight while I'm holding the cans on an e-meter in a ship tossing in the Mediterranean just doesn't sound like my idea of a good time. But whatever it takes to clear the planet, I guess.
