Serial Bank Robber in NYC Prefers Chase
The second repeat offender robbing banks in Brooklyn and Queens this year -- after the FBI-nabbed Holiday Bandit -- is still at large and has a preference for Chase Bank, police revealed today. He's being credited with 15 attempted heists in all, 11 of them at Chase branches, and all but one occurring in Brooklyn. On February 7, he tried to hit a Citibank in Queens. All told, the suspect has grabbed $47,938, with a maximum haul of $15,432, in two spurts, first in a spree from December to February, and after taking the spring off, five more since June 14. Dressed with his whole body covered, but more so in the winter, the robber works "note jobs," in which he does not show a weapon or speak, but simply hands over his written demands. Besides his brand loyalty, he's also demonstrated that he's not afraid to fail, walking away four times with no money, but seemingly no less confidence. Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips at nypdcrimestoppers.com or text info to 274637 (CRIMES), entering TIP577. [NYT]
