Sign of the Times: A Cunning Little Bar Plays Hard to Get
Tucked away on the far western frontier of Soho and lacking a sign, Sly must be located with a certain fox-like quality. Your cunning will pay off, though, once you find this slick little lounge. Happy hour is from 6 to 9 on weeknights, and it's actually bearable. You won't have to fight for the bartender's attention or fend off a lecherous after-work suit-and-tie circus. Instead you can just chillax with friends, enjoying a $3 Stella Artois or two-for-one well drinks. Better yet, try one of Sly's signature cocktails ($12), with names like Sly Passion and Sly Red. Made with infused vodkas and fresh ingredients, they are a devious assortment of libations. The Sly Honey, a sweet spin on the mojito with honey- infused vodka and ginger ale, is the star of the show. "Everyone orders that one," says the disarmingly friendly bartender. Later on, a DJ takes over the tables, spinning low-decibel house that won't have you running to the patio to continue chatting. Slip into the midnight-blue nooks in the back, which are lit by flickering votives. Conversation is still an option, but softly whispered flirtations are preferred.
