Sliwa 'Bronx Underbelly' Tours Not Appreciated by Bronx Officials
Remember those Curtis Sliwa tours we told you about earlier this week?
The so-called "Underbelly Tours" of the South Bronx where Sliwa promises in a video to point out the "Uzi-toting, dope-sucking, psychopathic, killing machines" hanging out on corners, near chop shops and drug houses?
Well, apparently the Guardian Angel founder has angered some folks with his characterization of the Boogie Down borough, and we're not talking about the thugs he's supposedly pointing his finger at, but the Bronx Tourism Council.
"We are surprised and disappointed that Curtis Sliwa is attempting to sell tours that capitalize on the worst stereotypes about the Bronx," Rafael Salaberrios, the council chairman, told the Daily News.
When we spoke to Sliwa about his tours a few days ago, he told us that he was trying to strike a balance between the Bronx of the days past and the present.
"It's a story of rebirth, struggle, continued problems, and regeneration," he said.
