LOCATION: Pier 17, South Street Seaport, Manhattan.
A Brooklyn DJ was shot and killed during a fight that erupted during a party on a yacht early Saturday. Omar Trent, 31, of East 21st Street in Brooklyn, was found by police with a gunshot wound to the head. He was declared dead at the scene.
The New York Post reports that the fight began after a woman was allegedly assaulted. The fight spilled off the boat and into a parking lot.
The Daily News said the fight started aboard the Atlantica, a three-level yacht. One witness tells the News that the fight began after a woman was hit with a bottle. More than 1,000 people showed up for the party, but the boat was only supposed to carry 400 people.
Trent was remembered as a peaceful man. "He brought people together," Sabrina Anderson tells the News. "He wasn't a thug on the street. I hope people realize he was a great guy. He really was. This is hard for us all."
