Somebody Got Murdered: Slaying in East Village Shelter

DATE: Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, 10:04 p.m.
LOCATION: Inside of 317 Bowery.
The police are saying that a fight inside a shelter at 317 Bowery ended in the death of 39-year-old man. The incident took place at the Project Rescue shelter. The victim sustained serious head injuries. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where doctors treated him, but he died about two hours after the assault.
The city Medical Examiner has yet to determine the cause of death. A 38-year-old man was arrested, but police did not release his identity, nor the name of the victim.
