The police have busted an upper Manhattan guy named Andre Velez, 23, on murder charges in connection with the death of a woman last Monday. Initially, the police couldn't tell how Glendalyz Pagan, 19, of Dyckman Street died. But the medical examiner reclassified her death as a homicide, and the police arrested Velez.
Pablo Guzman of WCBS reports that Pagan had been missing since Wednesday when she left home for the beauty salon. Her body, he says, was found four days later stuffed into the closet of a vacant apartment.
"She was a great person, she was full of life, she was 19, she had a beautiful child," Glendalyz's aunt, Helen Ruiz, tells Guzman. "This wasn't supposed to happen."

Velez, the suspect, was Pagan's ex-boyfriend, and the father of her 3-year-old. Velez once hit Pagan with a hammer, sending her to the hospital, Guzman reports. He lived down the hall from the apartment where Pagan was discovered.
A security video, Guzman reports, shows Velez, who was on parole, grabbing and choking Pagan and dragging her down the hallway just before she was murdered.
