Special Elections Tomorrow; Endorsements Roll In
It's off-season politically, but tomorrow's special elections and the recent appointment of the Bronx borough president to the Obama Administration have stirred some endorsement activity.
Debi Rose (pictured), who stands for Michael McMahon's vacated Brooklyn/Staten Island city council seat in tomorrow's election, won a slew of these over the past week or so from the Stonewall Democrats, New York NARAL, and the Tenants Political Action Committee. New York's NOW PAC couldn't formally endorse but says Rose "scored 100% on our issues" and they believe her candidacy "gives the voters of the 49th Council District a candidate who supports issues of concern to feminist voters."
There are also special elections in Queens tomorrow to fill the vacated council seats of state senator Hiram Monserrate -- Julissa Ferreras, Francisco Moya, Eduardo Giraldo and George Dixon are running -- and Joe Addabbo, with Geraldine Chapey, Lew Simon, Mike Ricatto and Eric Ulrich contending.
Bronx Press Politics tells us that the Liberty Democratic Association and the Bronx Democratic Party have stood up for Ruben Diaz, Jr. to replace D.C-bound Adolfo Carrion. They join Diaz' father, state senator Ruben Diaz Sr., who gnomically endorsed his son last week. Councilman Joel Rivera, who is also expected to compete for the Beep job, is the son of assemblyman Jose Rivera, who was removed from power over the Bronx Dems last year. The special election will be held in April.
