Staten Island Kid Bashes Dad Into Coma With Shovel
A 18-year-old in Staten Island didn't like that his dad was hassling him about staying out late at night, so he bashed his head in with a shovel, police say. James DeLeo, Sr. is in Richmond University Medical Center with a fractured skull and in a coma, and James DeLeo, Jr. is in custody. A roommate to the father-son team says that on Sunday morning Junior, after flashing a pair of knives, used his fists and feet to put Dad in a sufficiently docile state that he could apply the shovel-work. A neighbor tells the Post that DeLeo Sr. was so badly beaten "his face was inside out." DeLeo Jr. is charged with charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and fourth-degree weapon possession (for the knives, not the shovel). His attorney has understandably asked the court that his client receive psychological testing.
