Subway Newsstand Robbery Spree Now at 7; Force Sometimes Used
Remember that guy who recently robbed a couple of subway newsstands -- one on Christmas Day, the other on New Year's? Apparently he doesn't just work holidays. Police have him tied to five more such incidents in the past few week.
On January 6th, he is thought to have grabbed cash out of the kiosk at the 157th Street stop on the 1 line. The next day he brought in a partner; one on them snuck into newsstand on the 66th Street 1 train platform, allegedly holding a knife, while the other guy roughed up the proprietor.
On January 9, the suspect is said to have plied his trade at a newsstand in the Grand Central subway station and, later that same morning, at one in the Canal Street/Broadway station. The next day he did the same at the Times Square station.
He's struck at various times, from early morning to late at night. He's described as black, 5'10" approximately 40-45 years old. NYPD hopes if you've go info you'll call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or text 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577.
