Tattoo Artist to the Stars Busted on 100 Weapons Possession Charges
A well-known East Village tattoo artist, who once operated the first legal public tattoo parlor in New York, was arraigned yesterday on more than 100 counts of weapons charges, NY1 reports. 57-year-old Jonathan Shaw -- who's famously inked celebs like Johnny Depp, Marilyn Manson, Naomi Campbell, and Kate Moss -- was arrested yesterday after movers found a holy-crap sized stash of guns and weaponry he was taking westbound to L.A.
According to reports, police found "a loaded assault rifle, 12-gauge shotgun, and 30-caliber rifle, as well as 96 knives and dozens of boxes of ammunition." The New York Post says Shaw was released on $250,000 bail, and NY1 says, per Shaw's lawyer, that the tattoo artist "has no history of violence and looks forward to fighting the charges."
The Post adds that Shaw's lawyer says receipts will prove the weapons were legally purchased (albeit more than15 years ago).
No word on whether Shaw was arming a small militia or preparing for a zombie apocalypse or what the hell, exactly, he was packing so much heat for.
