The 2014 Winter Olympics Mascots: How Do They Compare to Mascots of Yesteryear?
The new mascots for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia are here! They're pretty cute if a little too Pixar. It's a polar bear, a hare, and a leopard with a snowboard. The only one who looks remotely athletic is the leopard. He's actually kind of scary if you look too long into his eyes.
How do they stack up to other Olympics mascots?
Vucko was the mascot of the 1984 Sarajevo games. He is b-a-d-a-s-s. The other finalists that year were a chipmunk, a lamb, a mountain goat, a porcupine, and a snowball. Totally dodged a bullet there.

Hidy and Howdy
No offense to the 1988 Calgary Olympics, but these mascots...need some work.
Izzy, representing the 1996 Atlanta games, is possibly the worst mascot of all time. What is he?
Athena and Phevos
Wait, maybe these are the worst mascots of all time.
I love Cobi! He is a Catalan Sheepdog inspired by a Picasso interpretation of a Velazquez painting, created for the '92 Barcelona Olympics. High-concept and cute.
Overall, the new mascots stack up pretty well. They certainly beat the hell out of Izzy and Phevos.
