The Body Count in Iraq
The U.S. government won't estimate the number of civilian casualties in Iraq, but as of April 27, the number was estimated to be 2,000 to 2,500, says London-based Iraq Body Count, which bases its numbers on published media reports. That compares with a total of 160 dead and 500 wounded among allied forces. How many Iraqi soldiers have been killed? The U.S. isn't releasing figures, but press accounts tallied as many as 3,000 in a single engagement early in the war.
