The Lower East Side Has the Drunkest Drivers

We're all for kicking back and relaxing with a bit of something boozy, and one of the greatest things about New York City is that you almost never really have to drive anywhere, whether you've been drinking or not. We're all grownups here, the very least we can do is take public transportation, or even a cab, if we're in the cups! Alas, this is not the case for certain partiers on the Lower East Side, which sports, in the 7th Precinct, the most drunk driving arrests out of any in New York City. Not exactly something to be proud of.

The New York Post reports drunk driving arrests in the 7th Precinct have almost tripled this year. As of March 27th, officers had busted 65 people for DWI, compared with 23 in the first quarter of 2010.

Pedestrians take note -- drunk drivers make things dangerous for you, too. Not to mention that increased DWIs have meant the introduction of a new Cabaret Unit, "with cops assigned to patrol the bar-crowded area between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m." and a Mounted Unit that's leaving horse shit all over the place. This is how a bunch of bad drunks ruins it for the rest of us.

FYI: The East Village has the most bars in the whole of the city. Leave your cars at home; you'll never find parking anyway.
