The Men's US Open Final is Wet With Rain (UPDATE: It's Rained Out!)

It is a big Sunday for sports! If you still don't understand the rules of American football, you are probably all set to watch tennis, which is widely considered less manly. Still, the men's championship US Open match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET (UPDATE: Not today! See below.) in Queens, New York as Rafael Nadal prepares to take on Novak Djokovic for the title. Unfortunately, it is raining. Fortunately, John Koblin of the New York Observer is liveblogging the weather conditions!

As of 3:06 p.m., the women's doubles championship had been postponed. Koblin reports:

3:21 P.M.: Just took a walk around the grounds. It's drizzling out there. Most people are going without an umbrella. After 10 minutes outside, there's no evidence of rain on my shirt. Not even a little wet spot to be found. In baseball, you'd play. In football, you wouldn't notice it. In tennis? It's enough to make the court slick, and USTA officials don't want anyone to tear an ACL out there.

And a few minutes later: "The USTA, which sounded optimistic a couple hours ago, sounds a lot more cautious now."

To impress potential sexual partners: Djokovic defeated arguably the greatest of all-time, Roger Federer, yesterday in five sets to reach his second Open final. Nadal, meanwhile, is the number one player in the world, and a victory in his first Open appearance is a big deal. Says Forbes: "Nadal would net $1.7 million for winning the event and it would make him only the fourth man to ever win the career Grand Slam during the open era joining Rod Laver, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer."

Yesterday, Kim Clijsters won her second women's US Open championship in a row, defeating Vera Zvonareva in only 59 minutes. ("Only," because that is a short tennis match.)

Updates as they come, but check here first. If the men play, you can stream it on your computer! Additionally, the official website promises the "first-ever live streaming of tennis in 3D," but Runnin' Scared will not vouch for that.

UPDATE, 4:59 p.m.: It's looking like 6 p.m. at the earliest for the men to get going, as the clouds hang heavy. Marth Stewart is not happy, tweeting: "This is the rain soaked court at the us open men's final. Will they play?????" She also provided a sad visual:
