This Week in the Voice
Phyllis Little wouldn't leave her apartment in the Bronx until she saw justice done for her nine-year-old granddaughter, raped and murdered in 1998. The police say they have the man who did it, and Little is preparing to go. But her mind isn't settled -- not about Robert Fleming, who insists he's innocent, and about a lot of other things. Joshua Kors reports.
Yes, that Peggy Lipton -- of The Mod Squad and Twin Peaks. Early this decade, she spent a lot of time with Jack Chartier, a "schlepper from Queens" with some connections of his own, including Hank Morris, now embroiled in a pension fund scandal. Things went sour for all of them. Tom Robbins connects the dots.
Booker T. has been hanging out with The Roots, who taught him the chords to "Fuck Tha Police. " Famous for playing the Hammond B3, he wrote most of his new record Potato Hole on a Strat. Rob Harvilla talks to him.
"Watching an eyeless drone fly over the rocky highlands of Afghanistan on CNN made me wonder what it might be spotting down there, food-wise," says Robert Sietsema. So he went to Astoria, to dine at Balkh Shish Kabab House.
J. Hoberman gets The Girlfriend Experience from Steven Soderbergh: "[Sasha] Grey isn't the first porn actress to go straight, but she may be the first to allegorize her own situation."
As he did last week, Michael Musto plays interviewer -- this time of designers Phillipe and David Blond -- but eventually gets to chatting with Tori Spelling and Klaus Ortleib, then goes to the movies (Woody!). Also:
Food: Sarah DiGregorio at Inakaya.
Art: Martha Schwenderer gallery-hops the Bowery (Sunday, Jen Bekman, Janos Gat, Canada, etc).
