Trendwatch: Post Finds Execs Eating at McDonald's
We've been hearing about how the bad economy and escalating rents have restauranteurs nervous. And we've noticed McDonald's is one of the few companies doing well (or at least relatively well) these days. So it was only a matter of time before somebody did a brokers-at-McDonald's story. The Post obliges with "UNHAPPY MEAL: Execs Now Dining at McDonald's." Three reporters interview suits at Mickey D's, who say "You've got to save when you can," "I get the Number 2 meal for $5.45," "In the past, when times are good, I'd be eating out," etc. The Post describes them as "notoriously picky New Yorkers who hobnob at Michelin-rated restaurants," but we are skeptical. Years ago, when we worked as a Wall Street messenger (ah halcyon days!), we saw well-dressed men and women at McDonald's all the time. Perhaps those were just simpler times, to which we are returning. We'll be convinced when companies start giving out logo-identified McDonald's gift cards instead of bonuses.
